Gabberts adds east metro location as part of furniture super store

After five luxurious decades in Edina, high-end furniture retailer Gabberts is finally opening a sister store in the east metro.

On Saturday, Gabberts opens a new showroom and design center in Little Canada. It’s part of a furniture super-complex that includes — under one very large roof — the new Gabberts store, a relocated Hom Furniture store and an existing Dock 86 location.

All three brands are owned by Hom, but the complex at I-694 and I-35E is the first time the Coon Rapids-based retailer has put all three together.

“This will be the largest furniture complex in the Twin Cities, probably in the Upper Midwest,” said Rodney Johansen, president and CEO of family-owned Hom Furniture.

Of course, not many Twin Cities households have the budget for a $ 40,000 hard-carved bedroom set, which Gabberts carries in Little Canada, along with a large selection of Stickley arts-and-craft furniture and other luxury offerings.
